IndiGo to Restart Kolkata-Siem Reap Route, Boosting India-Cambodia Ties
IndiGo will resume direct Kolkata-Siem Reap flights on October 1, 2026, with three services a week, in a move expected to strengthen tourism and trade ties between Cambodia and India.
The revival of a direct air link between Kolkata, India, and Siem Reap in early October is expected to give a significant lift to tourism and trade between Cambodia and India, according to Sinn Chansereyvutha, spokesman for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
The SSCA confirmed that Indian carrier IndiGo will bring back its direct service between Kolkata (CCU) and Siem Reap (SAI) starting October 1, 2026. The airline plans to operate three weekly flights — on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays — using Airbus A320neo aircraft.
Chansereyvutha called the route's return an encouraging development for deepening relations between the two nations.
Speaking to reporters on September 23, he noted that the connection first began in November 2025 but was later paused because of seasonal conditions. He expressed confidence that reopening it would energise important areas such as tourism, pilgrimage travel and commerce linking the two countries.
"This can be seen as a strong commercial partnership for both sides, since the route will open doors for joint tourism campaigns, appealing travel packages and greater connectivity between Cambodia and India," he said.
He added that Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) is fully equipped to receive IndiGo's returning flights and to ensure safe, smooth and dependable operations.
Cambodia's national carrier, Air Cambodia, already runs direct services between Phnom Penh and New Delhi.
India a key market for Cambodian tourism
Thoun Sinan, who heads the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Cambodia Chapter, pointed out that India ranks as the world's second-biggest tourism source market after China. He said restoring IndiGo's flights would deliver clear gains for Cambodia's tourism and trade sectors.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed 71,046 Indian visitors in 2025, an 8.5 per cent drop from the previous year. In the first eight months of this year, arrivals from India reached 35,905, down 19.2 per cent compared with the same stretch last year.
As of August 2026, four domestic carriers and 29 international airlines were operating in the Kingdom, the SSCA reported.
